TREATMENTS
PHYSICAL THERAPY
Often medical conditions such as arthritis, chronic pain, stroke and even the natural aging process can result in loss of function. This loss of function may present to a client as decreased flexibility, strength, or limited walking endurance. Physical Therapy can assist a client in regaining lost independence and restore participation in enjoyed activities. Following a comprehensive evaluation, treatment sessions will address each client’s individual needs and goals.
LYMPHEDEMA
Lymphedema is the swelling of a body part caused by the abnormal accumulation of lymph fluid. The swelling occurs most often in the extremities but can also occur in the face, neck, and abdomen. Although frequently seen as a complication
following mastectomy surgery, lymphedema may have other origins. Birth malformation, radiation, trauma, and surgical interruption of the lymphatic system may contribute to the development of lymphedema. Lymphedema is a common
condition, which left untreated may lead to serious consequences such as: excessive scar formation, infection, and even malignancy.
Lymphedema is most effectively treated through complete decongestive physiotherapy administered by a certified therapist.
COMPLETE DECONGESTIVE THERAPY
Complete Decongestive Therapy incorporates gentle manipulative therapy, compression bandaging, skin care, and remedial exercises to assist in the reduction of swelling.
COMPRESSION GARMENT FITTING
Once the swelling of an extremity has subsided or plateaued, a client is measured for a compression garment to maintain reduced swelling. After the arm sleeve or leg stocking is manufactured,
a client is instructed in its application and care.
